Education is one of our most powerful tools to build a more sustainable and resilient future. Young people who study at Djolu Technical College (DTC) have ambitions that go far beyond simply getting a college degree – they want to study so that they can improve people’s lives in their communities and protect their forest.
The Congo Basin rainforest sustains life far beyond Congo’s borders. What happens in Djolu shapes our shared future.
Every student who achieves their dream of a college education, every teacher who mentors young people who want to make a difference, every student who goes on to improve people’s lives and protect the forest they love…
All of them contribute to a more just and sustainable world.
Your support makes change possible. It fuels education, builds resilient communities, and helps protect one of the most important forests on earth. Jolie teaches her students that true conservation cannot ignore improving the lives of those who depend on the land. Jardin returned home after her studies to ensure that women in her community don’t die giving birth. Vital dreams of opening a community computer lab so he can teach other young people skills that can change their lives. Each of them is building something that reaches far beyond Djolu.
Hear DTC’s beloved teacher Jolie Bomata Lokombo talk about her calling to teach the next generation of conservationists:
“I wanted to learn how we can pursue sustainable development, preserve nature, and prepare a better future for the next generation... |

Yvon Vital – Computer Science Student in Djolu
“My dream is to have a real computer. If I had one, my life would change. If I had access to computer equipment, I would create a local training center where others could come and learn computer skills.” |
Jardin Botayi, DTC graduate who is now a midwife at Kokolopori
“I chose to become a midwife because I saw that there were very few qualified midwives in our community, and many women were dying during childbirth. So, I decided to study midwifery— to understand why women were dying while giving birth, and to come back here to help them. That’s why I chose to work in Kokolopori — to support mothers during delivery.” |
