Our Approach

At CEP, we invest in communities that depend on the rainforest for their livelihood. Your support provides local higher education, on-the-ground training and strategic outreach activities in rainforest preservation and sustainable agricultural practices - critical tools for successful conservation.

Community Leadership and Engagement

Decades of rainforest conservation efforts around the world have taught us that comprehensive and lasting change depends on local community engagement and leadership.

Where will these leaders come from? In the Democratic Republic of Congo, there are relatively few highly educated people in rural areas, especially people who are educated and trained in conservation.  This is why at Congo Education Partners, we are so passionate about what’s happening at Djolu Technical College (known in French as the Institut Supérieur de Développement Rural-Djolu or ISDR-Djolu.)
 .
Djolu Technical College is the only accredited rural development college in Tshuapa Province, a heavily forested and largely rural province that is the size of England.

The College, founded and led by Congolese, is a center for excellence in education, research, and community outreach in sustainable agriculture, forest conservation, and nursing and public health.

Djolu Technical College converts graduates into ambassadors for the future, provides the base for sustainable jobs, and reduces resource exploitation in the region. That's a tough nut to crack and is a long-play goal.
