Student Success

Some alumni of Djolu Technical College have gone on to work for local and international organizations such as Vie Sauvage, Djolu Hospital, the African Wildlife Foundation, and the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.  Others work in regional government or in local schools and clinics, and some have started conservation and development projects in their own communities.
Over 210 students have graduated from Djolu Technical College since its opening. The college has great community support and is growing fast. There are currently 127 students attending the college! Meet just a few of them...

Djolu Technical College student thesis research spans important local environmental and agricultural topics such as control of soil erosion, illegal sales of bushmeat from endangered species, impacts of hunting gear on the environment, comparison of mosaic disease-resistant cassava varieties, and the impact of agroforestry on crop yields compared to traditional agriculture.

Student Thesis topics

Other Djolu graduates have researched social, economic or health-related dimensions of rural development, including family planning practices, childhood malnutrition, the contribution of non-timber forest products to household income, women's participation in decision-making at area nature reserves, and early childbearing as an obstacle to women's development.

I am an activist for development, but I was blocked and couldn’t advance anymore. So I decided to study at Djolu Technical College so that I could acquire the training needed to help enhance development efforts in our area, and promote the role of women in these activities. Because if women are not actively aware and involved, then it will be difficult to truly protect the environment."

Many women here do not finish secondary school, much less attend college. I knew this would be a challenge, and I'm ready for it!

I'm studying at Djolu Technical College to better understand the connection between population problems, management of natural resources, and rural development. Here we benefit from good quality teachers. Our teachers are very skillful in their fields.”
