Albert Lokasola

CEP Partner & Founder of Djolu Technical College
Albert Lotana Lokasola is the founder of Djolu Technical College and the president and founder of Vie Sauvage, a nonprofit Congolese conservation and development organization that manages Djolu Technical College and the Kokolopori Bonobo Reserve, about 70 kilometers from Djolu.  Officially recognized by the DRC government in May 2009, the Reserve is a high biodiversity wilderness area covering an area about the size of Rhode Island.

As a native of Kokolopori, Albert believes that “the forest, people and wildlife live together and should be protected together.”  Before founding Vie Sauvage, he served as the DRC Secretary General of the Red Cross.  Since 2011, he has also represented Djolu Territory in the DRC Parliament.  His previous academic training is in chemistry and biology, and he is currently a graduate student in ecology at the University of Kisangani. His research focuses on the impacts of slash-and-burn agriculture on wildlife and ecological processes in the Maringa-Lopori-Wamba Landscape.

Ingrid Schulze

CEP Founder & Executive Director
Dr. Ingrid Schulze is the founder and Executive Director of Congo Education Partners (CEP). For over 12 years, she has worked with Albert Lotana Lokasola on education and health projects in Tshuapa Province, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Ingrid believes that local higher education in rural sciences is critical for Congolese young people to sustainably develop their communities and protect their rainforests.  In 2013, she founded CEP as a fiscally sponsored project of Multiplier. In 2006, she founded and, until 2011, led the Kokolopori-Falls Church Sister City Partnership, which also operated in Tshuapa Province.  The Kokolopori Partnership played a crucial role in the DRC government’s accreditation of Djolu Technical College and in the official recognition of the Kokolopori Bonobo Nature Reserve by the DRC government.

Ingrid has also worked as a health statistician at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and raised two children.  She has a PhD in Biochemistry and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Texas.
